When you’re with the family is an interactive room installation involving a three screen projection
of imagery, sounds, and ready made objects. This installation highlights the 10 minute experimental film, to heaven, considering fantasy for Black people from moments we currently live, providing a taste of being uninhibited, free, and liberated. The film also presents spiritual practices that look to transform fantasy into a consistent reality. As parts of the film reference the safety and comfortability of a home, the installation will include a variety of lamps, rugs, seating, and tables. This creates a familial space, an exaggerated living room/den area that immerses the viewer into what feels like memory for many Black families from the South. In addition, various newly documented and archived images/video will display softness, intimacy, and playfulness on all screens.
