Visual artist and printmaker Sergio Suarez (b.1995) will work on an 8’x 12’ woodblock matrix, his work uses a visual language usually associated to narrative, to explore abstract notions of time, language, and materiality in relation to the body, and contradiction. Overall his work borrows from systems of production and narrative to translate the aesthetic experience of time. As a woodcarver, his work uses fire as a recurrent symbol of chaos, purity and indeterminacy in an installation, the work owes a debt to French Philosopher of the sciences Gaston Bachelard’s The Psychoanalysis of Fire, where the author examines the diachronic meaning of fire as a recurrent symbol thought literature.
