An important message from Floyd Hall

Over the last several years, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know many members of Atlanta's arts/culture community. I’ve seen how important it is to have support for the artists and projects that go on to shape our city, and as I think of that…one thing is always constant…the need for funding, support, and encouragement for interesting and potentially transformational ideas.

When I look at the list of past grant recipients of Idea Capital, I’m incredibly proud—the list is a snapshot of the most important artists of our city of our time. Many of these artists have gone on to have success in a national or international context, and it pleases me to know that Idea Capital is part of the continuum of their success.

It’s important to fund artistic output that you believe in…but it’s also important to fund artists to support the ideas they believe in. Idea Capital meets artists where they are and supports risk-taking work, often without many of the barriers or parameters of typical grant-making organizations. This type of support represents a tremendous transfer of agency and support to creators who are often at very critical points in their careers.

I joined Idea Capital because I wanted to be part of these artists’ journeys, and in doing so I get to pour into the thinkers and makers who will shape the city. An investment in Idea Capital is an investment in the heart and soul of Atlanta, and the people who will shape Atlanta for years to come.

I hope you'll consider supporting Idea Capital and its work by joining our annual fundraiser, or by making a direct donation.

Sincerely,
Floyd Hall

Idea Capital 2020 Grantee and Steering Committee Member
